چکیده: The article focuses on the observation of the religious procession Ashura by Shi'ite men in commemoration of the death of Imam Husayn in the Battle of Karbala in Iraq. About 2 million Shi'ites gather in the city to wave, flags, chant, dance and beat their chest and others perform a form of corporal self-punishment using heavy chains and other materials. It presents an overview of the history of the Islamic Schism. It discusses the political significance of Ashura.
