Sexual Cleansing in Iraq.

چکیده: The article offers information on the crimes and restrictions against the lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, and transgender (GLBT) people in Iraq. In the southern Shia city of Najaf, the thirty-four-year-old taxi driver who guarded the GLBT safe house was shot after being stopped at a police checkpoint in March 2007, a twenty-nine-year-old gay tailor was beheaded in Karbala, and two lesbians who ran the safe house in Najaf were also found murdered. Ali Hili, co-founder of Iraqi LGBT, has set up a network of safe houses for GLBT people's refuge. Their location is kept secret, advertised only by word of mouth and is heavily guarded. It is also reported that gay men are disproportionately singled out for harassment and intimidation by extremists enforcing religious rules of traditional dress.
